Clinical waste bags follow the colour coding system in HTM 07-01 and the Safe Management of Healthcare Waste guidance. Yellow bags are for infectious waste requiring incineration, including waste contaminated with medicines or chemicals. Orange bags are for infectious waste that can be treated by alternative methods such as autoclaving before disposal, such as soiled dressings, swabs and PPE contaminated with blood or body fluids. Purple bags are for cytotoxic and cytostatic waste.
