It's crucial to avoid compressing the tick excessively, as this may cause it to release infected material into the bite. Additionally, take care not to pull too hard, as this could result in the head or mouthparts breaking off in the wound, leading to infection. After removal, cleanse the bite area with antiseptic or soap and water. Ensure the tick remover is disinfected before using it again.
