Collection: Dermatoscopes

Dermatoscopes

A dermatoscope (also called a dermoscope) gives a magnified, evenly lit view of the skin, so you can see pigment patterns and structures beneath the surface that are not visible to the naked eye. Dermoscopy is used to assess moles and other skin lesions, including when deciding whether a lesion needs referral. We stock dermatoscopes from DermLite, Luxamed and Opticlar for GP surgeries, dermatology clinics, minor surgery and skin cancer screening services.

Polarised, non-polarised and hybrid

  • Contact dermatoscopes, such as the Luxamed models with a contact plate, rest on the skin. Non-polarised contact dermoscopy usually uses a liquid between the plate and the skin.
  • Polarised dermatoscopes cut out surface glare without touching the skin, which is quicker and more hygienic between patients.
  • Hybrid dermatoscopes such as the DermLite DL200 Hybrid and DL4 switch between both modes, because each shows some features more clearly.

Smartphone dermoscopy

Smartphone dermatoscopes and adapters, such as the DermLite DL1 and HÜD 2, attach to a phone so you can photograph lesions and compare them over time or share images for advice. Check the adapter fits your phone model before ordering, and follow your organisation's rules on storing patient images. For help choosing, read our dermatoscope buying guide.
