Chair and Wheelchair Scales
Chair scales and wheelchair scales let you weigh patients who cannot stand safely on a floor scale. They are used in hospitals, care homes, dialysis and renal units, GP surgeries and community clinics, and many models are Class III approved for medical use.
Chair scales
A chair scale weighs the patient while seated. Mobile chair scales from seca and Marsden have wheels and brakes so they can be taken to the bedside, and many have fold-up armrests and footrests to make transfers easier. Wide-seat bariatric versions are available for heavier patients.
Wheelchair and platform scales
Wheelchair scales such as the seca 665, seca 675 and seca 677 have a low, wide platform that a wheelchair can be pushed onto, so the patient is weighed in their own chair. Some models need a drive-up ramp, which we sell separately. The scale subtracts the weight of the chair (tare) to give the patient's weight. Larger platforms also suit patients using walking frames.
What to check before you buy
- Maximum capacity, especially if you weigh bariatric patients
- Class III approval if the weight will be used for diagnosis, treatment or medication dosing
