Stadiometers and Height Measures

A stadiometer measures standing height accurately, which you need for BMI, growth monitoring and medication dosing. We stock wall-mounted, free-standing and portable stadiometers for GP surgeries, hospitals, school nurses and health visitors, along with infantometers and measuring mats for babies who cannot yet stand.

Which type do you need?

• Portable stadiometers such as the seca 213 and seca 217 break down for carrying between clinics and home visits.
• Wall-mounted stadiometers such as the seca 216 stay fixed in a consulting room and take up very little space.
• Digital and wireless measuring stations such as the seca 274 and seca 287 read height electronically and can send results to a patient record system.
• Infantometers and measuring mats such as the seca 416, seca 417 and seca 210 measure babies lying down.

Accurate height measurement

For a reliable reading, the patient stands without shoes, with heels together and back against the measuring board, looking straight ahead. Lower the headpiece gently until it rests on the top of the head. Small errors in height have a large effect on BMI, so a rigid, well-designed stadiometer matters more than it might seem.
